Noah (oldest son, 12 years) is headed for DC on Saturday as a member of the Junior Presidential Youth Inaugural Conference. It’s a four-day program that includes roundtable discussions with national journalists, meetings with congressional staff, and point/counter point debates with leading political experts, as well as special events with VIP’s (Colin Powell, Al Gore, and others). This has been in the works for some time (well before the election) and he was looking forward to it regardless of the winner. That said, he is particularly excited about the historic nature of Obama’s inauguration. A sense of history at age 12 is a good thing.
We recently surprised Morgan (daughter, 17 years) by sending her and boyfriend Liam to the inauguration also. This is her 18th birthday present (several days early) and she couldn’t be more excited. They will stay with my parents in Frederick, Maryland and take the train into Union Station on inauguration day.
